So, I haven’t written much of late.
It’s not a good thing when I don’t write but I have been reading and reading is good.
A few weeks back when the mother of all storms made a visit I lost power for a few days. This was very... inconvenient. If it had happened in the summer time, I don’t know if it would have been as much of a problem.
Days are longer in the summer and it’s warmer too so losing power doesn’t impact you in quite the same way. Oh, and it’s warmer too!
There has been so much happening though that I don’t feel like laboring over the storm though suffice to say that not having power made it woefully apparent to me just how much time I waste f%$&ing around on the computer.
Anyway, one of the books I read I really enjoyed - actually I enjoyed all the books I read (and the seven some odd graphic novels) but, this book I want to talk up:
I happen to subscribe to the Writer’s Block podcast and every once in awhile I hear something I find interesting that makes me seek out an author’s work. That’s how I came across this book. It’s a good read and you wouldn’t think a 50 year old bachelor would enjoy reading a story about a young girl but I did because there is a maiical quality to the story and the writing is very good (although the lack of quotation marks when characters are speaking took some getting used to).
So, in short do yourself a favor and go out and read this book.
More writing when I have some time.

On the eve of her ninth birthday, unassuming Rose Edelstein bites into her mother's homemade lemon-chocolate cake and discovers she has a magical gift: she can taste her mother’s emotions in the slice. To her horror, she finds that her cheerful mother tastes of despair. Soon, she’s privy to the secret knowledge that most families keep hidden: her father’s detachment, her mother’s transgression, her brother’s increasing retreat from the world. But there are some family secrets that even her cursed taste buds can’t discern.
